BEACHCLUB
Japan

We are looking at the second-largest artificial island in Japan, located in the southeastern region of the Port of Kobe. The island was built through land reclamation from the sea between 1973 and 1992. It is approximately 3.4 km long by 2 km wide, with a rectangular shape, covering an area of 5.80 km².

In the conceptual proposal, where the client’s needs include developing a beach club, changing rooms, and a marché, the design takes the opposite approach to the surrounding landscape—an entirely artificial island—seeking to bring to our environment the nature and beauty inherent in the natural creation and formation of an island.

Islands are formed as a result of different geological processes. Some arise due to volcanic activity, where materials slowly accumulate until they harden and form a solid landmass.

Lanzarote and César Manrique, the artist of nature, exuberance, and exoticism, become our source of inspiration.

"I feel nostalgic for the truth of things. For the purity of people. For the bareness of my landscape and for my friends. Man in New York is like a rat; he was not created for this artificiality. There is an urgent need to return to the earth. To touch it, to smell it."César Manrique
